From Magento to Shopify — less to run, same customers and rankings
We move catalogue, customers, orders and every ranking URL from Magento to Shopify, and tell you up front which Magento features need a different approach.
Why merchants move from Magento to Shopify
Magento can do almost anything, but it asks a lot in return: hosting and performance tuning, regular security patches, and upgrades that often turn into projects. Magento 1 has been unsupported since June 2020.
For B2C brands with a fairly standard checkout, Shopify removes most of that work. If you rely on complex B2B, deep checkout customisation or many store views, Shopware may be the better destination — we compare both honestly.
What we move from Magento
Data
- Simple and configurable products → Shopify products and variants
- Attributes → options and metafields
- Categories → collections
- Customers and addresses
- Order history and CMS pages
SEO & functionality
- URL rewrites mapped to Shopify URLs with redirects
- Meta titles, descriptions and alt texts
- Extensions replaced by Shopify apps or custom apps
- ERP, payment and shipping integrations reconnected
How the migration runs
Audit & inventory
We catalogue your data, extensions, integrations and every URL that ranks or earns traffic.
Mapping
Field-by-field data mapping and a complete old-URL → new-URL redirect map.
Build
The new store is built and themed on staging, with integrations reconnected.
Rehearsal migrations
We run the data migration repeatedly against staging and check the results with you.
Cut-over
Final delta migration, DNS switch and redirects live — planned for your quietest hours.
Aftercare
We watch 404s, Search Console and orders closely in the weeks after launch.
What to plan for
Configurable products
Shopify limits options per product. Products with many configurable attributes may need restructuring — we decide that with you first.
Store views and languages
Magento store views map to Shopify Markets and translations differently. We design that structure before migrating.
Customer passwords
Shopify cannot import Magento password hashes. Customers are invited to set a new password on first login.
Extension logic
Business logic in custom Magento modules needs a new home — a Shopify app, Shopify Functions or an external service.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a Magento to Shopify migration take?
Typically 8–16 weeks, depending on catalogue structure, store views, extensions and integrations.
Can you migrate from Magento 1?
Yes. Magento 1 and 2 store data similarly enough that the same approach works, with version-specific adjustments.
We sell B2B too. Is Shopify right for us?
It depends on how complex your B2B is. For customer-specific catalogues and pricing rules, Shopware is often the better fit. The Migration Assessment compares both for your case.
